Safe Use of Free Copilot
Free Copilot is great for ideas, but not for sensitive business info. Do not paste in client details, passwords, financial data, employee information, or confidential company plans.
Microsoft Copilot Comes in Two Flavors: Free and Licensed
Microsoft includes Copilot directly in Outlook and other Office apps at no cost. Simply seeing the Copilot icon does not mean you’re using a paid version.
- Free Copilot is great for light tasks—brainstorming, quick answers, and simple drafting. It does not have the advanced, integrated capabilities that come with the licensed version.
- Licensed Copilot is the secure, enterprise-grade option that works inside your Microsoft 365 environment. It can summarize your inbox, pull context from past emails and Teams chats, and reference documents across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more.
Bottom line: Free Copilot is widely available and helpful for non-sensitive, everyday tasks. Licensed Copilot is the right choice when you need security, compliance, organizational control, and deeper analytical or productivity features.
