IT Radix’s Proactive Approach to IT Support

The continuing stream of news events seem to happen so fast these days that some of us may have already forgotten about the CrowdStrike issue that occurred on July 19, 2024.  On that date, that cybersecurity company released a software update for its Falcon security software and due to an internal issue with the update, it almost immediately caused widespread, worldwide issues with over 8 million computers running their security software.  The result was the “blue screen of death” and an estimated $10 billion in financial damages.

Proceed with Caution When it Comes to Software Patches and Updates

This incident provides a good lesson on the soundness of the IT Radix approach to ongoing IT support management for its clients.  It illustrates why the IT Radix team does not automatically allow patches and updates from key software providers like Microsoft to immediately download to their clients’ computers.  Rather than let them automatically flow through, IT Radix typically holds up these patches for short periods of time to both test the compatibility of each patch with key operating software and to review the technology blogs that do even more deep dive analysis.

Why Not Jump in with Two Feet?

Why does IT Radix do that?  Well, exactly because of the type of reaction that occurred in the CrowdStrike update.  Some of these updates inadvertently cause more harm than good in the short term.  So, caution is the word, and it makes a lot of sense because waiting can minimize disruption and allow time for a “fix” to be developed and distributed.
