Three Important Online Safety Tips to Share with Your Kids

Summer is here, and with kids having more free time, it’s important for parents to keep an eye on their children’s use of tablets, phones, and social media. We all know that the online world can be a risky place, and it’s our job to protect our kids from potential dangers. Here are some friendly reminders to help keep your children safe:

  1. Think Before You Post: Remind your kids that anything they do online is public. If they wouldn’t say or do something in front of their entire class, they shouldn’t do it online.
  2. There’s No Real Delete Button: Once something is posted, it’s out there forever. Removing comments or photos is like trying to get pee out of a pool—it’s nearly impossible.
  3. Be Cautious: Teach your kids to be skeptical about who they interact with online. Unfortunately, not everyone online has good intentions.

For older kids, it’s good to remind them that schools and future employers often check social media profiles. Encourage them to post content they’d be proud to show a teacher or boss.
