Cathy’s Corner – April 2024

During the height of COVID, I built a she‑shed with my husband in our backyard on a pre-existing wooden platform (which meant nothing was square). It’s built around a sliding glass door recycled from our VT home and 6 windows from our NJ sunroom. The whole structure slants to the right and is far from bug and airtight, but I love it!

Building it engaged my mind on something completely different than problems of work and home and was a great project to focus on during the weekends. Now that the she‑shed is essentially complete (are projects like this every truly done?), I’ve enjoyed countless hours sitting in my Adirondack chair working or just looking at the beauty of nature.

I’m proud that it was created with reused building materials. In honor of Earth Day this month, I challenge each of you to find something in your day-to-day world that you can reuse instead of just discarding. Need some inspiration, a simple internet search will surely get you started. Share your ideas on our Facebook page—don’t be shy, I’ve posted a few pics of my ramshackle she‑shed that now houses a sitting pouf that has become one of my cat’s favorite sleeping spots.
