Happy Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!

cd_cookiesIt’s National Chocolate Chip Day… Celebrate with a Chocolate Chip Cookie!picture_RonR-and-Seth-eating-cookies

Did you know the Chocolate Chip Cookie was invented by accident?

Yes, Ruth Graves Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn located in Whitman, Massachusetts, ran out of baker’s chocolate while baking Chocolate Cookies for her guests.  She found a semi-sweet chocolate bar given to her by Andrew Nestle and cut it into tiny bits.  Substituting with the chopped semi-sweet chocolate bits, thinking they would melt… the Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie was born.

Ruth’s recipe was published in a Boston newspaper.  Soon after, Nestle saw sales of the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar increase significantly.  Ruth and Nestle came to an agreement that would allow Nestle to print the Toll House Cookie recipe on its packaging.  The rest is history!

So in honor of this illustrious day, indulge in at least one Chocolate Chip Cookie today.  We did!
