Urgent Out-of-Band Microsoft Patch

On 9/21/12, Microsoft released an out-of-band patch to address a critical security hole in Internet Explorer versions 6 through 9.

What does this mean for you?

  •  If you're an IT Radix managed services client, we've got you covered.  Simply reboot your machine if you are prompted.
  • If you are not a managed service client, we strongly recommend that you manually check if KB2744842 is installed on your machines. You can check this in Windows Control Panel.

You can read more about it here.  Fair warning - lots of tech talk on this page!

Our synopsis:  Oftentimes websites, even legitimate ones you go to every day, can get infected.  When that happens, attackers put in code on the website which in turn can infect your machine if you browse to it.  In this case, a bug existed in Internet Explorer which is actively being used by attackers, increasing your chance of being infected.  The Microsoft patch will protect you from this exploit.
