Have you heard about the recent hack of federal data, supposedly the result of a bug put in federal servers by Chinese hackers?  Apparently they got access to lots of information about federal government employees.  The worm had been in place for months and maybe more than a year, giving the hackers plenty of time to copy millions of records.

Today’s business environment moves at a rapid pace--a pace unheard of even just 15 years ago.  A service-based business like the Lash House Beauty Boutique in Livingston, New Jersey, should not have to put up with slow computers not allowing them to service its customers in a professional and timely fashion.

No Sun

Okay, we are not recommending lathering up your device with sunblock, but we are advocating exposing your phone to as little sun as possible.

Do you often travel for business and stay in hotels or motels? Or, maybe sometimes you travel for pleasure? You likely lock your hotel room door after you enter it. But if you are spending time in your room surfing the Internet using the free hotel Wi-Fi, you may have left that virtual door to the outside world wide open, leaving you and your data very vulnerable.

Use auto-preview functions

If your email client is able to do it, use auto-preview functions and erase junk email before you download it onto your computer.

This month’s SPAM Blocker Tip is:
Do not use auto-responders

An auto-responder is a clear signal for the spammer that the junk mail arrived at a real email address, which gives him a "good" reason to keep sending SPAM. If you have a filtering service in front of your server, it can help and will not send auto-responder.

Turning off machines when not in use is a good rule-of-thumb when striving to conserve energy.  However, did you know that you can configure your machine to shut down automatically after your nightly backup?
