What to Do If You’ve Been Hacked

Imagine this…

You realize you just clicked on a suspicious email from someone claiming to be a Nigerian prince offering you $24 million.  Panic sets in.  What’s your next move?  While you probably didn’t fall for that classic scam, what if your device really has been compromised?  Do you know what to do immediately?

Stop, Disconnect, and Call

First things first!  Physically disconnect your device from your company’s network and the Internet.  Unplug it or turn off the Wi‑Fi to stop any potential spread.  Next, call IT Radix, your trusted IT partners, and report the incident right away.  Even if you just suspect something is off, don’t ignore it, don’t click around, and definitely don’t try to fix it yourself.

If you’re an employer, it’s crucial to have a plan. Work with your IT provider to create clear, step-by-step instructions for your employees on what to do if they think they’ve encountered a cyber incident. Training needs to happen now, not in the midst of a crisis.  Simple steps like these can prevent a minor issue from becoming a major problem that affects your entire organization and even your clients.

Don’t wait until it’s too late.  Reach out to IT Radix today to learn more about our Security Awareness Training for you and your staff.  We’re here to make IT work for you!
